Welcome to the Moosehead Men's League 2018 Season

Week 1 is in the Book!

Jun 8, 2018 | Posted by The Commissioner

Grand Bay - Westfield — I can’t say this with absolute certainty but to the best of my knowledge, we set a record this season.  This is the highest numbers of registrants to date with 138 competitors. This is our 4th year and lets hope this grows with each season. The league is a blast for the players and absolutely great for our club.

First Week In the Books

For reasons unknown, the beginning of the Men’s League season fills people with a positive but completely irrational attitude toward their individual and collective possibilities.  Case in point: Dozens and dozens of WGCC male members stood on the 1st tee Wednesday foolishly believing things were going to be different this year despite having done nothing to advance the change.  “No ifs, ands, or buts about it, everything is finally going to come together in 2018,” said everyone from Rob Elkin to Joe Williams and, I imagine, countless others who also have no evidence whatsoever to support their optimistic claims.  “Believe me, said Mr. Mike Leblanc, I realize that I did nothing this winter to lay the groundwork for any sort of real improvement in 2018, but I just know I’ll be hitting more fairways and greens this year.  It’s going to be great.”  Update: At press time, sources were reporting that Mike's gross score of 47 (net 46) prompted him to abandon any sort of hope for 2018 and he's now looking ahead to 2019.

One thing that never changes is the hopeful captains – particularly during the first couple of weeks.  What I find most entertaining is the huge range of emotions exhibited by these "dreamers" as the scores come in and the standings change.  I couldn’t help but notice the Captain of Team Graham, Mr. Mike Graham.  Graham is in his first second as a Skipper and despite an enigmatic method of drafting that demonstrated no favour whatsoever for golf related talent or participation linked dependability I know he wants nothing but the best for his squad.  There was a moment right around 7:00 p.m. when his team went from a victory, to a tie, to defeat in less time than it takes to measure Peter McCarthy's inseam.  Such a frenetic pace can wear on a man I assure you.

I would like to once again thank Seamus Cox and Chris Gallant of Cox Law Office and Royal Lepage Atlantic for once again sponsoring the closest to the pin prize on #2. This will be the coveted prize each week as it is worth $40 bones.

Also, you may have noticed the brand new scorecard box on #10, that Rock Hudson crafted for us. Thank you Rock!

Bunker Shot

Each week we will be drawing 2 names to try to get up and down from the far bunker on 18 (nickamed the embarassment bunker)

Week 1 had Colin Mackenzie and Mike Pougnet try for the $112 pot. Both failed miserably and now it carries over to week 2.

A new feature this season is the Ringer Board. Each week, as we enter the hole by hole score, your best score on each hole will be tracked for the season. Prizes will be given out at the end of the year for the players with the best Ringer Score.
