Welcome to the Moosehead Men's League 2017 Season

Team McCarthy with strong lead heading into the playoffs

Aug 15, 2017 | Posted by The Commissioner

With the last week of the regular season coming up this Wednesday, Team McCarthy has a commanding lead over the field. The FedEx style playoffs will begin next week where there will be no more head to head battles, but teams will receive points for their overall standing each week among the 10 teams. There will be 3 weeks of playoff before a champion is crowned.

More details will follow after the last week of the regular season is played.

Week 9 Highlights:

Team Buckley over Team Thompson (241-247)

Captain Buckles is playing lights out as of late and posted a solid 1 over par. The younger Leblanc was 38. Team Buckley had 4 under par net scores though which helped get them the win. Glen Maclean led the charge with 32 net and Stan Ptasznik, Paul Hickey and Terry Henry each had 33 net. Team Thompson's sharp shooter Wade Hunter was 2 over par gross and they also had low net of the evening with Dave Casey's all time mens league low net of 26!! But nobody else really stepped up and Team Buckley got the W.

Team Earle over Team Savoy (237-247)

Team Earle got one game closer to gettign back to .500 for the season with a win over the 2nd place Team Savoy. Team Earle have been picking up steam since the mid season signing of Scott Weatherhead, and both players displayed their power with a 35 adn 37 gross score. It also helped that all 5 counting net scores were under par. Barry Reid was 32, Bill Lunderville, Chuck Hickey and match captain Craig Bird were 33 net. Rounding off the team score was Paul Hill at 34 net.  Team Savoy bettered team Earle with the gross scores as Captain Savoy and Rock Hudson were 35 and 36 gross. But only two decent net scores in Kris McCauslitn and Matt smell the Bacon who each carded a 34 net. Look for these two teams to make a move in the playoffs.

Team Graham over Team Roberts (238-239)

Team Grahahm nipped Team Roberts by 1 point. Both team played very well and they would of beaten pretty much every other team in the league on week 9. But unlucky for team Roberts they were matched up a slightly better opponent this week. Team Graham had the low gross score of the evening with Don Roberts 1 under 34. They also had a few slew of under par net contributors. Captain Graham and Bob Lourie were 32, Laurie Melanson and Rick Gerrior were 33 and Tilmon Martin was 34 net in the winning effort. Team Roberts had two respectable gross scores with Captain Roberts and Alex Cunningham posting 2 over 37, and they also had an Irish handful of under par net scores. Rob Thibodeau went super deep with a 31, Warren Lignley and Rob Elkin were 33 and Doug Buckley and Jacque Ouellette were each 34. In the words of Alex Cunningham during the Saturday night Molson shootout after a player was eliminated, "So sorry for your luck, Meow"

Team Hubbard over Team Myles (248-251)

Team Hubbard would not have beaten many team on this evening, but sometimes you end up playing to the level of your competition...They took down Team Myles with the help of Matt Mason's even par gross performance and the good Bishop, Tom was 37. Dr. West and Bruce Gault were each 34 net. Team Myles had a low gross score of 37 by the Duffer Braden, and the double D duo of Dave Whipple and Dereck McCausltin were each 33 net. But that was all the fire power they had.

Team McCarthy over Team Leblanc (235-256)

This match was irrelevant, because with a score of 235, Team McCarthy would beaten any team on this week. Team Leblanc's team score of 256 would of made them lose to any team this week as well. Team McCarthy asserted their strength Le Big Time this week, eliminating any hope of a Davif vs Goliath win for Team Leblanc. Captain McCarthy and Ryan Spencer were great as always with a 37 and 36 gross. It also helped that Duke O'brien got into the 20's net with a 29. Max Frees, Ron Brunet and Joe Williams were 33 net and just to pour a little salt on the wound, Larry Brown was 34 net.  Team Leblanc absolutely stunk. Captain Leblanc had his worst score of the season with a 40, after having a complete meltdown and taking an 8 on #4. They only had two players play decent with Bob Tilley who played his guts out to shoot 34 net and Jeff Keleher led the team with a 33 net. Rumor has it that Tilley wants out of Team Leblanc and is accepting all offers.
