Welcome to the Moosehead Men's League 2017 Season

Week 5 update

Jul 17, 2017 | Posted by The Commissioner

Week 5 had some scoring condtions as the weather was perfect. Notables for the week are that the skinsin division 2 (6-9) were all tied and the $78 pot will be pushed to week 6. John Mcfadden shot his career front 9 with a gross 38, that led to a net 27, which also led to his Team Roberts winning. Finally the retunr of Scott WEatherhead to the leaegue who was missing in action for a few weeks. He went to the winless Team Earle.

Match 1: Team McCarthy vs Team Buckley (243-246)

This is the match that had the most hype of the night as it was two of the top teams in the league. Team Buckley brought their A game as well led by a couple of Mikes (Buckley and Leblanc) who shot 35 and 36 gross. Glennie Maclean and Mick Tait even chipped in with 33 and 34 net. Team McCarthy lost the gross battle as Peter was 2 over and steady Ryan Spencer was even par 35. But as always, it is those pesky high handicappers that end up winning and losing the matches for you. Chris Gallant and Larry Brown were 33 net and John Murray was 1 under net, and that made the difference to earn the win.

Match 2: Team Leblanc vs Team Myles (252-258)

There weren't many teams that Team Myles would of beaten on week 5, but lucky for them Team Leblanc was one of them. Captain Leblanc was caught going through the leagues bylaws to see if trading players was allowed mid season. Billy Johnstone and Kevin Quinn shot their handicap to come out 35 net, and the pro was 1 over par gross. But that was it. The other 7 players should of went straight to the useless bastards section. Team Myles only did marginally better, with Braden Duffley shooting the low side of his possibility of scores. (This season his range is between 35 and 45), and Steve Foldi was the only guy under par net with a 33. This match was so boring that it made Derek McCaustlin and Gary Limkildes net 35 exciting.

Match 3: Team Roberts vs Team Hubbard (245-252)

When you get a guy with 27 net (John McFadden) and another with 31 net (Sean McCullough), it doesn't really matter what the rest of the team does, you will be hard to beat. That being said, Alex Cunningham was 36 gross and Neil Roberts was 38. But the match was not a blowout as league rookie Matt Mason was even par gross and Brian Marks was 32 net.

Match 4: Team Graham vs Team Savoy (248-241)

Team Savoy is in lone 2nd after this week and a fresh change from last years poor performance. They took down the ever talkative Mike Graham by having 4 players under par net. Ken White led the net squad with a 31, Matt Bacon was 33 net, and Seamus Cox and Walter Foster were each 34 net. That along with Savoy and Rock's 2 over par gross were the deciding factors in the victory.

Team Graham matched them on the gross side with Don Roberts and Dale Price also both carding 37. They even had 3 players under par net as well, Matt Arsenault (33), BlaineWalsh (34) and Rick "my powercaddy has the right of way" Gerrior (34), but came up just short.

Match 5: Team Earle vs Team Thompson (244-254)

Team Earle finally got their much needed first victory. But their mid season acquisition was a large part of that. Scott Weatherhead came along at the right time for the lowly Team Earle, and he played well right out of the gates with 1 under gross. Ed Arsenault and Richard Harris were the teams best net scores as well. (31 adn 34).

Team Thompson struggled to put a couple good gross scores in, with the lowest being Wade Hunters 39. Jack Keir, Mike Pougnet and Mike Thompson were each 34 net in the losing cause.
