Welcome to the Men's Day 2019 Season

Playoff Week 1

The first week of Playoffs is in the books.  Thanks to everyone for their patience and understanding when we use two days.  This was the highest participation we’ve had when doing the two-day split, and it’s a great way to start the playoffs.

Wasting no time, the Glory Holes jumped all over week one to pull ahead in the Championship pool with their Week 1 victory.

This week saw all three winning teams come from the Championship Side.  The Duck Hook Dynasty and Deuce of hazards took 2nd and 3rd place.

With just one week in, the race is incredibly tight on both sides.  The Championship Side is anyone’s game.  The Whaleshit side has already seen some movement with the Big Ginger’s crew jumping up into first.

George Redpath was our 50/50 winner for the week with Dan McNee collecting the Canadian Tire Gift Card.

Back to normal this week!  Let’s crack a new participation number and make week two a banger!

The final prize money will be awarded to the top three teams in each pool (50/30/20).  Championship Side getting 60% of the pot and Whaleshit splits 40% of the pot.  Fear not though, much of the total end of year prize money goes into a prize table that everyone is eligible for.  Each round you play gets you a ticket in the draw – and yes… that’s a hell of a lot of tickets.

Last but not least, remember you need to have played 7 times throughout the year to be eligible for the end of season prize money.  So if you’ve missed a few, there is still time to crank out a few rounds.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the days are already getting shorter.  It is an absolute MUST to play as quick as you can!  We will start the nine hole shotguns in September to help get people on the golf course as quick as we can.

This has been an incredible summer so far.  Let’s make it a great finish.

Cheers,

BP

Quick Recap

What a day that was!

That’s one of the busiest tee sheets in recent memory, and thanks to everyone who paid attention to their pace of play, it went off without a hitch!  Well, not counting the torrential downpour in the middle of the day.  The Ryder Cup guys were perfectly on pace, meaning all the turns worked correctly around the Golf Ontario Match Play Semi-Final and Final.  All in all, a terrific day and thank you for your patience with so many people on the golf course.

This week was the last week of Regular Season play, and for the first time this year we’ve had a tie for first!  High on MOI and the Deuce of Hazards bested the field.  Glory Holes were only one shot behind, despite an incredible 33 from Curt Berfelz!

Berf was both the Low Gross man for the week and shared the Low Net as well, with Caleb Warren.

For a while we thought we had a ridiculously low score on the board…. Harrison, Hutchison…. Close enough….

All good.

I’ll get the Playoffs setup in the next few days.

Thank you to all in men's for sharing the course again this year, if we held anyone up in the afternoon we apologize and thank you very much for your patience! BM

Perfect Thursday!

How can we pull Shades’ name for the 50/50 after that pin on 3 Vintage??  What a nasty one that was!!  Just kidding – it was my own fault for short-siding myself!

Another beautiful day for golf yesterday!  Wasn’t quite as hot.  Lots of roll!

The Deuce of Hazards are rolling.  Another victory last night puts them in solid position with one more week before the playoffs begin.  They trail the Masters Blasters and the Hack and Slashers who are tied for the league lead.  Once again, you can see what works – participation.  The teams that get the most players show up each week continue to lead.  And the teams that don’t – well….don’t.

Second place for the week were the Pitches and Hookers – squeaking by the Big Ginger’s team.

Just proving that he should listen to me more, Mr. Nichol was GOOD yesterday, carding a 34 on the front, and completing his round by shooting everyone’s favourite number, he was our low gross man yesterday.

Everyone else seemed to tie for Low Net.  A four-way split of Nathan Arand, Dave Dickey, Scott Savage and Dapper Dan, netted them each nine bucks.

Next week is a busy one.  The Ryder Cup guys are back – they’ve been better with pace of play lately, and I’m sure they will continue to improve this year.  The Junior Match-Play Finals will be happening mid-day, but otherwise there are lots of times around both events.  It will be busy, but it should be a great day.  Please make sure you follow your correct rotation and show up on time.

Next week is the last week for a push for final standings before the playoffs start.  We split the group into two sides, top 7 go in the Championship Pool, and the bottom 7 go in the Whaleshit Division.  All points are cut in half to tighten the field.  Once playoffs start, the points increase each week, so there is plenty of opportunity to make up some ground!  Top three in each division receive an end of year bonus!  Once again, the head-to-head is done once the playoffs start.  Each pool competes in Medal Play.  The lowest three teams overall (from both pools) win the weekly cash!

Reminder that August 15 we will also accept scores from August 16 due to the corporate booking that we host on the Thursday.

The end of another Month bring another Meat Draw winner!  July’s winner is Mark Holmes!  Thanks again to Stew and the folks at Imani Farms for helping us out with this neat prize!

Last but not least, we are hosting a FREE Junior Clinic on Monday from 10-12 with Golf Ontario’s Jessie Mercer!  To sign-up your junior player, email jmercer@gao.ca.  For more information, check out the twitter feed on the right.

Thanks again for playing guys!  Have a great weekend!
