Survey

Guys,

I have just given James a draft of the survey we would would like to do for next year.

Not sure how long this will take but keep your eyes open for it. And and all input would be appreciated.

Almost Done

Gentlemen,

I amost had this done and then I deleted the original message so bear with me.

We are just about wrapped up for the year. We have a few final bills to pay and then we can complete the admin. part of the mens league. And we still have a few envelopes and prizes that have to be picked up at the proshop.

I have a good estimate fo the last two bills - final payment for the Golf Scoring System we use and for the engraving on the plaque so we are almost done and I can give you a good summary of the "finances" of the league.  I have already given the club executive a more detailed summary.

$18610 was generated in dues and weekly payments. Note that approx.60% of the 153 members chose the single paymnt.

$19792 was given back to the league members in prizes, cash and food.

Right away you can see we gave back more than the membership dues and fees. Plus there were some other expenses to run the league. They were as follows:

$1480 (Approx.) for the computer system we use for scoring

$1400 to the Proshop/Kitchen/Grounds Crew for all their help and support during the year

$310 ( Approx.) for miscellaneous expenses - Plaque Engraving, tickets, envelope and a few drinks

$100 refunds - one ,member quit

The extra money we needed came from three sources - 1) sponsors $750, 2) Club Swap $90 and 3) the 50/50 $4000

The 50/50 was generously supported by approximately 100 people out of the 153 league members who regularily bought tickets. The $4000 include the weekly draw, the meet and greet and the final day draw. We had 19 different winners - one person won twice- who won a total of $4000 at an average of $178. and Rob Womboldt who won a free league membership at the meet and greet.

Without the 50/50 we would have to cut back on the prizes and/or distribution or charge each member more money.

The pay back directly to the members was done as follows: 1) $5057 in weekly team winnings 2) $2221 in the weekly skins money 3) $7922 in the prizes and money paid out on September 17th 4) $1100 for the Hamburger meal and 5) $2300 for the Sept 17th meal.

To summarize - We had $24617 of income including the bank account and we paid out expenses, prizes etc. of $24533. Almost breakeven which is what we were trying to do. The year end bank account will probably be a little highr than when we started but not by much.

In looking back at the year and then ahead to next year we learned a lot, had a good time doing it and we think the majority of the league members had a good, fun year so we can build on that. There are still some people who think they might get rich playing in the men's league and are frustrated that they don't plus a couple of other people who think we should do things different. As we said at the wrap up event we will provide an opportunity for everyone to give some input through another survey. We will do this shortly. Please keep in mind our approach has been to try and organize things that satisfy 90+% of the people who play in the men's league and we will try to do the same next year.

Have a good winter.

It is done! And SNC-Lavalin won it all

Guys,

It was a great year. Good, if not great weather all summer, plus a superb golf course, let us have a good time all year and a fitting end to the season yesterday.

SNC-Lavalin was strong all year and capped it off by defeating the upstart Queen's team in our head to head match up  yesterday. Congratulations to them, a well done to Queen's and an atta boy to everyone else. Oh - Boston Pizza won the "Best of the Rest" team  prize yesterday and certainly proved that you are never completely out of  it f you give yourself a chance.

Like the game of golf itself you are going to have some bad shots and some bad holes but if you can keep a good attitude about yourself good things can happen.

We gave out lots of prizes yesterday, tried to spread them around, and had an excellent steak dinner to wrap it up. FYI - We handed out approximately $8000 in prizes and money yesterday. Not bad when you think about it and just so you should know the 50/50 draws contributed about $3200 towards the prize packages. Without this we would not have been able to do as much. So yes - we can get to be a "pain" about this but it means something and it also meant that we handed out $3200 to the weekly 50/50 winners. We only had one double winner so that means 18 people got a pretty nice pay out.

I told the assembled mass yesterday ( 108 guys played) that we will do a survey in the next while to get your input for next year. I also told them that our objective is to organize the league to make sure the majority ( 90%+) are happy. We will take the input to see what, if anything, needs to be tweaked.

This will be a chance for you to provide some input. Throughout the year I only had one or two people speak to me about concerns they had with how things were run. The vast majority seemed to like and enjoy the league.

In the last couple of weeks or so unfortunately we have had a couple of Individuals who have voiced opinions or criticisms about some stuff they don't like. It is quite OK to have these opinions but it is not OK to 1) not talk to the me directly and 2) get in the face of a committee member at an offsite social event and 3) send an email alleging some improper behaviour of another player without having the courage to identify that person.

In one of these situations the person"alleged" that a number of people may not join the men's league next year because they were "not happy" If that happens I will understand they don't want to belong, wish them a good 2017 and concentrate on making sure that the other 90+% enjoy a good year.

I had the final "team winnings" on Saturday but the day was a long one so I still have the cards. We did pay out most of the money for skins for the last 6 weeks of the season but now I have the skins money that needs to be paid for Saturday. And we still owe some winnings to the championship team (SNC), the runner ups (Queens) and the "Best of the Rest" winners ( Boston Pizza). All this is organized and, if I don't see you in the next few days, it will be in the ProShop the next time you are at the course.

I will do one more blog this year to summarize the financial results of the Men's League. We indicated at the start we would spend all the money we took in and end the year with the same sized bank account we started with. I will show you how we did.

It was a great year, I enjoyed helping out, and on behalf of myself, Peter Jarvis, Rick Porritt and John Oscien( who insists on doing thing things in the background to make sure "his baby" is doing well) thanks for a good year.

The Finalists are Set

Gentlemen,

SNC-Lavalin and Queen's were victorious.

Congratulations. They will now go head to head on Saturday to see who will be the Champions for 2016.

We had 116 guys play tonite and it was a beautiful day.

I have heard that some guys haven't shown up to play the last couple of weeks because their team was "out of it". If that is true what a shame. Not only  was it a great day for golf but, as we have explained time and time again, all the teams were still playing for the weekly team money, skins and KP's.

The low team for the week was once again Queen's at 212. We have put $180(12*$15) in their huge team account. Accra was second at 217 and we have added $100(10*$10) to their team account.

Lots of skins this week. In the 0-5 group Dan Bogle, Rich Henwood and Chris Rickett all won $14.65, in the 6-8 group Howard Burleigh, Jim Laudanski, Richard Ringler and Enzo Rizzi won $9.50 each and in the 9+ group Mike Byrne, Len Coyle, Steve Penny and Sid Richardson all won $8.50 each.

The KP's were won by Pete Jacobs on #11 and Mike Byrne on #13. Pete already received his balls and a sleeve of Prov's will be in the Proshop tomorrow for Mike.

And, the 50/50 was a generous $182 which was won by Brain Downes.

Overall it was a good day. It would have been good to have a bigger turnout but I guess we have to take what we can get.

This was our last Thursday and I will miss the 12 hour days but it has been a good time. The vast majority of the guys I have spoken to have said they enjoyed the league. We were hoping to make sure at least 90% of the guys were happy and I hope we succeeded.

So far we have 113 guys signed up for Saturday, Remember it is a 9am shotgun. I had someone tell me today they didn't even know about Saturday so if you are talking to someone tomorrow from the league who tells you they didn't know about it or forgot tell them they can still sign up in the Proshop.

Have a good day and see you Saturday.

Howard
